History

Dragons Badminton Club came into existance in August 1995 as a result of the merger of two existing clubs - Downley and Rose Avenue.

The merger came about because one of the clubs was running short of ladies, and the other was running short of men. When the club first merged the total membership was around 50 people, and its first chairman was John G.

It was initially decided to keep both club nights (Downley played on Mondays, Rose Avenue on Fridays) to see which was more popular. As we have never got around to making that decision we are still playing twice a week !

The name Dragons was dreamed up by someone based on the acronym of 'Downley and Rose Avenue GONe'.
